In a position that dominates the town and the Sauze d’Oulx ski resort – the place where Freestyle competitions were held during the Torino 2006 Olympics – Chalet Il Capricorno is located within the Via Lattea ski circuit (320 km of ski slopes).
Alpine skiing has long been a part of life in Sauze d’Oulx. It was on these slopes, in the early 1900s, that the Swiss national Adolf Kind, after carrying out early trials in Turin’s Valentino park and on the peaks of Giaveno, introduced this new sport to the village. The first ski lessons took place in February 1906, run by the Norwegian national, Harald Smith.
Today, thanks to skiing – among other things – the one thousand residents of Sauze d’Oulx swell to 25,000 during the winter season, attracting tourists from all over Europe, particularly Great Britain, with a small local British community now devoted to the area.
